Umbra Cuscinetti faced a uniquely challenging situation in that all of the engineers and supervisors based in Seattle, Washington couldn't access the data they needed to perform, measure or manage their quarterly production. The server was in Italy, which slowed down the entire process of obtaining timely data considerably. They lacked the ability to make adjustments on the fly to keep pace with Boeing's shifting needs.
IFTHENWOW's team was tapped for this special project because it involved not only data aggregation and integration, but also the ability to provide management clean, consolidated reports – good decision-making needed to be based on up-to-the-minute information and in light of historical and evolving statistics.
Careful analysis led to recommendations regarding the use of an SQL server with reporting services for the business intelligence and asp.net for the custom User Interfaces to be developed. This served to overcome the challenges of disparate information sources (spreadsheets, flat files, scheduled emails with attachments, plant floor LCD read-outs, etc.) and to meet the need for delivering the right information in the requested format at the right time. IFTHENWOW's software implementation and the quality of the resultant information led to increased performance on behalf of the production team, thanks to management's newfound ability to efficiently and more proactively intervene and correct production processes.
The successful project was completed on-time and on-budget due to a partnership plan that stressed communication and problem-solving collaboration.
